Street Cleaning Suspensions
In observance of the Jewish high holy days of Succoth, alternate side parking rules will be suspended on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 1-2. Meter regulations, however, will remain in effect each day.
Road Work
Because of ongoing construction work at several locations throughout Queens and Brooklyn, the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced numerous street closures in local neighborhoods for the upcoming week.
The announced diversions are current as of Wednesday, Sept. 26. The DOT may shut down other roads should the need for emergency repairs arise.
Streets and highways that are affected by closures during this week include the following:
Street Repaving In Glendale, Elmhurst
Weather permitting, DOT crews will conduct street resurfacing along the following roadways:
– 70th Avenue between Otto Road and 70th Street in Glendale for paving on Thursday, Sept. 27;
– 79th Street between Calamus and Grand avenues in Elmhurst for paving on Friday, Sept. 28;
– 82nd Street between Ankener Avenue and a dead end in Elmhurst for paving on Thursday, Sept. 27;
– Elks Road between Calamus Avenue and 79th Street in elmhurst for paving on Friday, Sept. 28; and
– Otto Road between 64th Street and 69th Place in Glendale for paving on Thursday, Sept. 27 and Friday, Sept. 29.
Lane Closures On Van Wyck Expwy.
One of three lanes in each direction of the Van Wyck Expressway between Jewel Avenue and Union Turnpike may be closed on Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. due to construction work related to the Kew Gardens rehabilitation project.
Additionally, up to two lanes in either direction of the expressway in the same section may be closed on overnights from 1 to 5 a.m.
Concrete Work On Cross Bay Bridge
One lane will be closed in each direction most Saturdays at the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge for work related to the $17 million project to rehabilitate the concrete piers beneath the bridge.
The Saturday lane closures will take place between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. and continue through November. One lane in each direction had previously been closed on weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to accommodate equipment being used as part of the repair work, and will continue through November as well.
Currently, two northbound lanes into Broad Channel are closed Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and on Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. while heavy cranes, fitted with 4-to-6-foot wide stabilizing bars, are used to lower materials to the work area near the bridge’s north abutment.
The entire project, which includes excising and repairing damaged concrete and shoring up materials that protect the bridge’s concrete abutment, is expected to be completed in November 2013.
Lane Closures On Grand Central Pkwy.
One lane of the Grand Central Parkway in each direction will be closed between 82nd and 111th streets on weekdays from 12:01 a.m. until 5 a.m., on Saturdays from 1 to 6 a.m. and on Sundays from 1 to 9 a.m. as the DOT conducts maintenance work.
