Say R’Wood Teen’s Speed Killed Girlfriend

Shortly after a gruesome crash on an East Williamsburg street early last Saturday morning, Sept. 29, that killed his girlfriend, a Ridgewood man was booked by police for allegedly driving drunk and causing the deadly wreck, it was reported.

A Middle Village woman was killed in a high-speed crash in East Williamsburg early last Saturday morning, Sept. 29, allegedly caused by her Ridgewood boyfriend, who was charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI, police said.

Police said that Sebastian Worwa, 19, of 67th Avenue faces vehicular manslaughter and other charges for his role in the one-car collision that claimed the life of Carolina Berszakiewicz, 21, of 84th Place in Middle Village.

Law enforcement sources said the crash occurred at around 3:20 a.m. last Saturday in front of a location on Johnson Avenue near Varick Avenue.

According to information obtained by police, Worwa was behind the wheel of a black 2009 Mazda 3 traveling eastbound on Johnson Avenue with Berszakiewicz riding along in the front passenger seat.

A bicyclist was killed after he was struck by a vehicle at the corner of Metropolitan and Stewart avenues in East Williamsburg on Monday morning, Oct. 1. It was the second deadly vehicular accident in the neighborhood in as many days.

Moving at an allegedly high rate of speed, authorities stated, the vehicle suddenly lost control, swerved and smashed into a nearby telephone pole.

Officers from the 90th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Berszakiewicz, who sustained massive head and body trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the criminal complaint provided by the Kings County District Attorney’s office, police observed Worwa exhibiting signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, an odor of alcohol on his breath and an unsteady gait.

He was brought to Elmhurst Hospital Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Following further inquiry by the NYPD’ Accident Investigations Squad, Worwa was placed under arrest and charged with second-degree manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, driving at excessive speed and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors stated.

According to court records, Worwa was arraigned in Kings County Criminal Court on Sunday, Sept. 30, and ordered held on $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court today, Thursday, Oct. 4.

Biker dies 48 hours later

The East Williamsburg area experienced its second fatal accident in as many days early on Monday morning, Oct. 1, when a 26-year-old bicyclist was fatally struck by an unknown vehicle, according to police.

The identity of the victim was not disclosed by the NYPD pending family notification.

Reportedly, the accident occurred at 5:15 a.m. Monday morning at the corner of Stewart and Metropolitan avenues.

Members of the 90th Precinct were called to the scene and found the 26-year-old victim, who sustained severe head trauma, lying on the ground. He was brought by EMS units to Woodhull Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

No arrests have been made in the case, which remains under investigation by the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad, police said.
