One person died and another was critically injured after a pair of cars collided head-on along a Woodside roadway last Friday afternoon, Oct. 19, it was reported. According to Fire Department sources, the crash took place at 5:45 p.m. on Laurel Hill Boulevard near 48th Street, below the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and adjacent to Calvary Cemetery. The impact of the collision reportedly caused one of the vehicles to slam into a concrete pillar. Responding to the scene were members of Engine Co. 325, Ladder Co. 163, Squad Co. 288, Rescue 4, Battalion 45, NYPD Emergency Services Unit 10, the 108th Precinct, NYPD Highway Patrol Unit 3 and EMS units. Both victims, who were trapped in the vehicles, were removed by first responders through the use of the Hurst tool, commonly known as the “jaws of life.” They were each taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center for treatment, but one of them-whose identity was not known- succumbed to their injuries.
