City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley was among more than 30,000 people who participated in the annual Tunnel to Towers 5k run/walk between Brooklyn and lower Manhattan on Sept. 30. As noted, the event raised funds for the Stephen Siller Tunnels to Towers Foundation, named in honor of a firefighter who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Off-duty as the attacks took place, Siller-a member of Squad Co. 1-drove up to the then-closed Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, then ran through it to reach the World Trade Center. Joining Crowley (at right) for the run was Lydon Sleeper, her former chief-of-staff, who now works in the Office of Public Advocate Bill de Blasio.
