While checking on an apparent water leak, a superintendent found two elderly sisters dead inside their Forest Hills apartment last Wednesday, Oct. 3, according to police.
Law enforcement sources identified them as Leah D. Roth, 88, and Ilene Roth, 79, both of whom resided at an apartment house on 108th Street.
According to information obtained by police, the building’s superintendent entered the Roth apartment on the 10th floor of a highrise building at the corner of 108th Street and 70th Road just before 10:50 a.m.
Reportedly, the superintendent was responding to complaints from residents about a leak.
Upon entering the unit, authorities said, the Roth sisters were found lying on the floor unconscious and unresponsive.
Members of the 112th Precinct responded to the scene along with EMS units, which pronounced the two women dead at the location.
Their bodies were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
Law enforcement sources said there were no apparent signs of trauma or forced entry.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
