Cops Say Driver Fled Deadly Accident

The hit-and-run driver responsible for fatally striking a 42- year-old man on a road through Highland Park on the Brooklyn/ Queens border on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 21, remains at large as of press time, police noted.

Law enforcement sources said the unidentified driver fled from the scene in his/her vehicle after hitting the victim, whose identity was withheld pending family notification, in the vicinity of Highland Boulevard and Vermont Place.

According to information obtained by police, the accident occurred at around 1:15 p.m., when the 42-year-old man was walking southbound along Vermont Place.

Seconds later, authorities noted, he was struck by the suspect’s car as it traveled westbound along Highland Boulevard.

Members of the 75th Precinct and EMS units responded to the location after receiving reports of the incident.

The 42-year-old man was brought by paramedics to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The NYPD Accident Investigation Squad is continuing its inquiry, police said.
