Today Toyota issued a voluntary recall of 2.5 million U.S. vehicles due to a safety issue with its power windows.
According to the car manufacturer, the driver’s side power windows “may experience a ‘notchy’ or sticky feel during operation” because the grease was applied unevenly during the manufacturing process.
If a commercial lubricant is applied to fix this problem, then the switch could melt and may event catch on fire.
Toyota will notify owners of the recalled vehicles by first class mail starting in late October.
Recalled cars will need to go through an inspection, switch disassembly and application of special fluorine grease, which should take about an hour, and will be free of charge.
