The LIRR will keep waiting rooms at 41 stations in the system open until 10 p.m. on weekdays; previously, the waiting areas were closed by mid-afternoon at most stations.
It was noted that the pilot program was enacted based on concerns raised by the LIRR Commuter Council, which pressed for later afternoon and evening access to station facilities on behalf of customers. The LIRR will carefully monitor and assess the impact of extending the waiting room hours and may modify or end the program at certain stations should circumstances warrant.
