Burned Body In the Garage Found In Richmond Hill Fire

Firefighters discovered the remains of a body inside a burned out garage behind a Richmond Hill home which caught fire last Saturday morning, Jan. 19, police reported.

Due to the severe extent of the burns, the identity of the victim was not immediately known by law enforcement sources.

Reportedly, the one-alarm blaze broke out just before 1 a.m. last Saturday inside the garage located in the rear yard of a location on 120th Street near Liberty Avenue.

Multiple Fire Department units and the 106th Precinct responded to the location after receiving a 911 call regarding a fire consuming the garage.

The body was found by firefighters as they brought the garage fire under control. EMS units were called to the scene and officially pronounced the individual dead.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the identity of the victim and the cause of death.

FDNY marshals, meanwhile, are continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze.

The police investigation is ongoing, NYPD sources said.
