MANHATTAN — The rear-ending of a taxi in Manhattan Sunday resulted in an Elmhurst cab driver’s death, the NYPD said.
Mir Hoosain, 35, of 81st Street and Broadway in Elmhurst, was found dead on East 26th Street in Manhattan between Lexington and Third avenues, police said. Officers were called to the scene after a 911 call at 2 a.m., police said.
The NYPD found a gray 2000 Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 42-year-old man had been going eastbound on the street when it hit Hoosain’s 2010 Ford Crown Victoria taxi, which was double-parked. The impact caused it to jut forward and strike Hoosain, who was standing in front of the car, as well as strike three other parked cars, police said.
In one of the parked cars, a 2008 Honda Accord, a 43-year-old man had been sitting in the driver’s seat, police said. EMS took the man to Weill Cornell Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Police said the driver of the Nissan was not arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
