Allegedly Tried To Pick Up Pupils
Parents and students at a Glendale school have been warned about a suspicious man who attempted to pick up children off streets around the neighborhood in two recent incidents.
Police described the perpetrator as a heavy-set white male with black hair and short beard who was observed driving a minivan.
Law enforcement sources said the first incident took place back in November, when the perpetrator- who was behind the wheel of a green minivan-approached a child walking in the vicinity of 72nd Street and Central Avenue.
The second incident took place on Dec. 14, when the male-who was operating a white minivan- tried to pick up a youngster in the area of Myrtle Avenue and 69th Place.
In both cases, authorities said, the suspect asked the children if they wanted to “play football” and asked them to hop inside his van. The children targeted instead ran into a nearby store and called police.
The 104th Precinct and the NYPD School Safety Unit were notified of the incidents. An investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with any information about the incidents that could prove helpful is asked to call the 104th Precinct Detective Squad at 1-718- 386-2735; all calls will be kept confidential.
