Rail Car Catches Fire In Maspeth

Firefighters quickly extinguished a debris fire inside a rail car along the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Montauk branch in Maspeth on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 27, it was reported. According to Fire Department sources, the blaze ignited at around 5:30 p.m. inside an open container car parked on the tracks in the vicinity of Rust Street and Maspeth Avenue. Among the units that responded to the scene (listed in numerical order) were Engine companies 206, 259 and 291; Ladder companies 128, 140 and 163; Battalion 28; the 104th Precinct and EMS units. There were no reported injuries or service disruptions.
