Far Rockaway victims of Hurricane Sandy were provided with $1,000 debit cards distributed by the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, Sen. Charles Schumer, Rep. Gregory Meeks, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall and Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder during an event at P.S. 256 last week. As noted, the project was established by Howard and Edie Lutnik to assist over 10,000 families who were affected by the superstorm that struck the New York City area last October. The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund was originally organized in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to assist the more than 600 Cantor Fitzgerald employees who died at the World Trade Center. In the years since, the fund has expanded to help local and global relief efforts.
