Spirit of Catholic Schools Celebrated In Ridgewood and Glendale

Parochial schools in Ridgewood and Glendale opened their doors to the public on Sunday, Jan. 27, in kicking off the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens’ annual Catholic Schools Week celebration. As described, the campaign features a variety of public events aimed at promoting the activities of Catholic schools in their respective communities. During each open house, guests were welcomed by the school’s principal as well as faculty members; students helped guide visitors on tours of their campuses. Pictured at the open houses are (top left) St. Pancras School in Glendale, including Principal Philip Ciani and Msgr. Gregory Wielunski, St. Pancras Church pastor; (center) St. Matthias School in Ridgewood, including Principal Barbara Wehnes; (top right) Sacred Heart School in Glendale, including Principal Joanne Gangi; and (bottom left) Notre Dame Catholic Academy of Ridgewood, including Principal Maria Cuomo. Before kicking off Catholic Schools Week, eighth graders at Sacred Heart School received their graduation rings at a ceremony held at Sacred Heart Church. As shown above, the students’ rings were blessed by Fr. John Fullum, Sacred Heart pastor.
