Late Lenten Customs and Early Easter Fun Around Community

With Easter Sunday in sight, there were not only early celebrations of the holiday this past weekend around the Times Newsweekly’s coverage area, but also a number of programs marking the waning days of Lent-the Christian season of preparation leading up to Easter. In the top photo, members of the Msgr. Sherman Knights of Columbus raised funds by serving up the catch of the day during their annual Lenten Fish Fry at St. Pancras School in Glendale last Friday night, Mar. 22. Among those who participated in the meal was Msgr. Gregory Wielunski, St. Pancras Church pastor, who is pictured with K of C members. In the two photos at top right, students at St. Pancras School enacted a Living Stations of the Cross at the church last Friday night. The performance re-enacted the steps Jesus Christ took on Good Friday from his sentencing by Pontius Pilate to his death on the cross. Last Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 23-24, the Easter Bunny hopped around the community, getting a chance to meet and greet children in Woodhaven, Glendale and Middle Village. Shown at left are youngsters with the Easter Bunny at a photo session sponsored by the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation; members of Glendale Chamber of Commerce gathered with the Easter Bunny and local kids in the bottom left photo. Children also enjoyed a meal with the big rabbit at a breakfast hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Middle Village at St. Margaret Parish Hall on Sunday, shown at bottom right.
