Police foiled a break-in at the Fresh Pond Railyard in Glendale early last Thursday morning, Mar. 14, collaring a Brooklyn man who allegedly helped to burglarize an idle train car packed with cases of beer, it was reported.
Law enforcement sources said that Treyvon Samuel, 22, of Shepherd Avenue in Cypress Hills was busted while attempting to hide under a parked vehicle close to the crime scene. The other participants in the break-in reportedly remain at large.
According to information pro- vided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the incident took place at around 1:45 a.m. near the entrance to the freight train facility off the intersection of Otto Road and 68th Place.
Based on information obtained by police, Samuel allegedly acted as the lookout as several unidentified sus- pects entered the railyard and opened up a locked box car.
Reportedly, the crooks stole 45 cases of Corona beer contained within the box car, placing them outside the railyard’s entrance gate.
Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to the location and found the beer as well as the damaged train car.
In searching for suspects, the criminal complaint noted, officers found Samuel allegedly hiding under a sedan parked a few feet away from the pile of stolen beer.
Following questioning, Samuel was cuffed by P.O. Nicholas Capace on charges of third-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal trespassing.
Court records indicated that Samuel was arraigned later last Thursday in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Michelle Armstrong, who released him on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court on Apr. 4.
