While nearing the end of construction that kept part of the 7 line shut all of last weekend, a work train derailed near the Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue station in Long Island City on Sunday night, Mar. 24, it was reported. According to sources, the accident occurred at around 7:45 p.m. on the Manhattanbound tracks, when the train accidentally struck a metal plate and went off the rails. There were no reported injuries, and the track itself did not suffer major damage. Service on the 7 line was restored by the following morning. It was the last in a series of weekend disruptions for required maintenance on the 7 line between Queensboro Plaza and Times Square dating back to January.
