Phillip Banks III, 50, who spent more than half of his life working for the NYPD, was appointed recentlyas the NYPD’s new chief of department.
Banks, who has been promoted more than seven times over the course of 26 years, served as commanding officer to four precincts and executive officer to two and held several other titles.
Banks was advanced as the department’s highest ranking uniformed officer in a promotion ceremony.
Born in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Banks resides in St. Albans with his wife of 24 years and three children.
Banks will become the 37th person to hold the post.
