Wdhvn. Church Part of World Organ Day

May 6 Performance To Hit Heavenly Notes

Organs located in churches and other houses of worship around the world will be played on Monday, May 6 in a continuous worldwide concert, and the Emanuel United Church of Christ in Woodhaven is among the participating venues.

As noted, the concert coincides World Organ Day, which marks the 850th anniversary of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, France and commemorates the tradition of ecclesiastical music performed on pipe organs across the globe.

The Emanuel Church of Christ concert will take place on Monday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the church located at the corner of 91st Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard. Charles LoCasto will perform on the house of worship’s Kimball pipe organ.

LoCasto is a familiar face on the local music scene as both an organ layer and a vocalist. He received his music training at Cornell University and served as organist for St. Nicholas Church in Williamsburg, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Woodhaven, Trinity-St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Maspeth and Emanuel Church of Christ.

He is most familiar to the Emanuel Church community as a pianist and performer at the church’s annual dinner in September.

Admission is free, but donations of any amount are suggested and appreciated. Light refreshments will be served following the concert.

The performance coincides with the anniversary of Emanuel Church, which has served Woodhaven for 136 years.
