Hoping to instill a love of Arbor Day among local youths, the Maspeth Lions Club teamed up with a Nebraska-based organization-the Fourth Grade Foresters-to introduce an environmental program at three area parochial schools. As noted, fourth-graders at Our Lady of Hope School in Middle Village (top photo), St. Adalbert School in Elmhurst (middle photo) and St. Stanislaus School in Maspeth (bottom photo) were provided with Norway spruce seedlings to plant and nurture. Maspeth Lions First Vice President Richard Kichinski headd up the project for the Maspeth Lions and gave a full presentation on the history of Arbor Day and tree care to each school’s fourth-grade students. Joining Kichinski at the St. Adalbert session were Maspeth Lions President Joseph Papavero and Second Vice President Joseph Papavero Jr.
