It was a big weekend for the Blue Weiss Gottschee (BWG) soccer club, Apr. 27 and 28, with many of the club’s teams scoring crucial wins.
BWG ’04 Blue played one year up from their division, meeting the ’03 Chernomorets in a hard-fought game in Brooklyn on Apr. 28. Despite a first-half lead of 3-2 (enabled by a hat-trick from Liam Molloy), the boys faded and lost 6-4. Damien John got the final goal.
The ’01 Gottschee Pre-Academy team continued its winning season with a 3-0 win against FC Westchester in league play. Goals were scored by Jeremy Saravia, Veljko Petkovic and Jonathan Ford. Justin Silva had another solid game in the net, making necessary saves on the few shots put on goal.
BWG 2000 White team beat Gjoa in league play this weekend with a score of 5-1. Goals came courtesy of Joseph Kolarzh (2), Victor Regateiro (2), and Sal D’Angelo.
BWG 2000 Pre-Academy won both their games this weekend. On Apr. 27, they beat the league leader, Match Fit, 2-1. Petr Mazanek and Gerrard Rodman put the ball in the net for BWG. On Apr. 28, the boys won their second consecutive game in league play. They beat Levittown 3-0 with Luis Ten, Petr Mazanek and Adem Vucetovic scoring.
BWG ’95 Blue finally found a win, handing the FC Vipers their largest defeat of the season as they romped to a 15-1 away win on a blustery Randall’s Island.
The team spread the goals around with three players scoring hat tricks. Carlos Rebelo scored six, and Ian Ryding and Tarcisio Nascimento had three goals each. Eric Alerte (2) and Marcus Delgado also made it to the scoreboard.
