Sanford’s Finest Grabs Two Wins

Sanford’s Finest rebounded from last week’s Queens Lighted Softball Association doubleheader loss with two wins over Primetime that left Finest with a total of 26 runs and handed Primtime its first two losses of the season, Monday, May 6.

Sanford’s Finest came out with a strong performance, beating Primtime 19-8 in the first game and setting the overall tone for the rest of the evening.

Omar Velazquez played his first week of the season and made his presence felt with a solo shot during his first at-bat and a three-bagger during his second appearance at the plate.

Anthony Santos added three singles for Sanford’s Finest, which took advantage of the hole in Primetime’s infield on the left side-a key player for Primetime was serving a onegame suspension.

Edwin Rodriguez reached base during all three trips to the plate, earning two singles and a walk. Rodriguez also drove in a run.

After 13 runs in two innings, Primetime just couldn’t catch up, and with that, Sanford’s Finest completed their sweep, winning game two 7-3.

Johnathan Nouel knocked in five, going yard in the sixth with a tworun shot and clearing the bases in the fourth with a standup double.

On the mound, Sanford’s Tony Mercado got the better of Primetime’s

James D’Elia, recording fewer walks/hits per inning pitched (1.14 to 2) and a strikeout.

Johnathan San Pablo added a solo blast for Finest in the first inning. Chris Diaz, who returned to the lineup, Monday, went three-for-three and scored twice.
