Blaze Breaks Out at L.i.c. Power Plant

Twenty firefighters had to be decontaminated as a precautionary measure after fighting a fire at a Long Island City power plant last Wednesday, May 29, FDNY sources said. The blaze reportedly broke out at the Ravenswood generating station on Vernon Boulevard near 38th Avenue. No injuries were reported, but the firefighters were decontaminated to guard against possible exposure to toxic chemicals. Two hose lines and one foam line were used by firefighters to bring the blaze under control.
