Fire broke out in a two-story, multi-family house in Astoria Monday afternoon, displacing 18 people who lived there, including four children.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, at 25-38 27th St., and the cause of the fire was still under investigation, according to the FDNY.

The displaced were in the care of the Red Cross.

“We housed them last night and today we registered them,” Red Cross spokeswoman Abigail Adams said Tuesday. “We put them up and keep them safe and warm while we attend to their immediate needs.”

Red Cross Greater New York CEO Josh Lockwood was at the scene of the fire as he was taking part in a 24-hour disaster response shift to raise awareness for fire safety and to highlight the commitment of Red Cross volunteers.

“In responding to multiple devastating fires over the past 24 hours, I was most struck by the commitment and spirit of the Red Cross volunteers who braved frigid temperatures and fatigue to support distraught families,” he said.

With more than 2,200 local responses every year, Greater New York is the busiest Red Cross region in the country.
