Aims To Expand Primary Care Access
As part of a growth plan to expand access to primary and specialty care services throughout the Queens community, New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) has acquired two physician practices, Bayside Primary Care (formerly known as Barra, Coman, Rawlings) and Queens Diabetes and Endocrinology.
Additionally, another 10 specialist physicians are now seeing patients in the hospital’s growing Whitestone Primary Care and Maspeth Multispecialty Care practices.
Bayside Primary Care has primary care physicians and a cardiologist who focus on promoting lifestyle changes to improve an individual’s physical health and overall well-being. Queens Diabetes and Endocrinology provides care for people with diabetes (an ongoing epidemic in Queens), as well as other complex endocrine conditions.
This practice is involved in national clinical research studies, and its founder, Daniel Lorber, M.D., is associate director, Theresa and Eugene M. Lang Center for Research and Education, and director, Division of Endocrinology, NYHQ.

At Whitestone Primary Care and Maspeth Multispecialty Care, members of the community can continue to find more physicians and services near where they live and work. Maspeth Multispecialty Care now offers in-community access to cardiology, vascular surgery, sports medicine/orthopaedic, urology, and pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition services.

Bayside Primary Care, located at 44-02 Francis Lewis Blvd., Suite A in Bayside, has seven primary care physicians, some of whom have practiced in the community for more than 30 years. These physicians are Peter R. Barra, M.D., John C. Coman, M.D., Svetlana Fuzaylova, M.D., Ion Oltean, M.D., Calina Lia Pavlovici, M.D., Sherban Pavlovici, Jr., M.D., and Grigoriy Shatenfeld, M.D. Cardiologist, Gregory Pontone, M.D., has recently joined NYHQ and sees patients at this location.
Queens Diabetes and Endocrinology, located at 59-45 161st St. in Flushing, continues to be a resource for individuals with endocrine disorders. Endocrinologists Daniel L. Lorber, M.D., Joseph M. Tibaldi, M.D., Loli Huang, M.D., Nicola Kreglinger, M.D. and Siu-Ling Ma, M.D., offer treatment for a variety of endocrine conditions, including diabetes, thyroid disease, and adrenal disorders.
At 14-02 150th St. in Whitestone Village, Whitestone Primary Care has been open for one year and has grown to include six physicians. At this location, members of the community will find Justin A. Classie, M.D., a specialist in sports medicine and general orthopaedics, Urologist Farshad Shafizadeh, M.D., and Cardiologist Gregory Pontone, M.D. They join Family Practice Specialist Ambrose Pipia, M.D., Internist Domenick Acquista, M.D., and Cardiologist Katherine Heretis, M.D.
Maspeth Multispecialty Care has expanded its team of specialists to include Cardiologists Gregory Gustafson, M.D., Mark Balek, M.D., and Katherine Heretis, M.D., Vascular Surgeon Ankur Chawla, M.D., Orthopaedic Surgeons Justin A. Classie, M.D., and Annibale Pluchinotta, M.D., Urologist Farshad Shafizadeh, M.D., Pediatric Gastroenterologists Suma Kamath, M.D., Aaron Turkish, M.D., and Nutritionist Joanne Carroll, N.P. The practice is located at 72-41 Grand Ave. in Maspeth.
