One person was seriously injured in a crash that launched two vehicles through a fence and on top of a guardrail along the Grand Central Parkway in East Elmhurst Friday morning, a spokesman for the Fire Department said.

Emergency responders were called to the accident at about 10:45 a.m. on the westbound side of the roadway near the Whitestone Expressway and brought one unidentified person to New York Hospital Queens in serious condition, the spokesman said.

The Breaking News Network reported that a police officer was injured in the accident, but a spokesman for the Police Department said Saturday that no members of the NYPD had been hurt.

Two vehicles involved in the crash were seen resting on top of a guardrail, next to where they had flown through a fence Friday morning as officials blocked off a portion of the roadway.
