Elmhurst’s Pan American Lodge Checking Back In

Gets Second Life As Hostel/Hotel

There appears to be room once again for travelers at the Pan American Hotel in Elmhurst.

Shuttered in January, the former motor inn located at 7600 Queens Blvd. recently announced its reopening as a hostel/hotel, dispelling rumors circulated through the community that the city might reuse the facility as a shelter.

When the Times Newsweekly called the New Pan American’s phone number for confirmation, an automated message answered, stating that the hotel “was no longer in operation.” However, this paper could not leave a voicemail message, as the hotel’s mailbox was full.

This paper also sent an email to the address provided on the hotel’s website requesting comment.

As of press time Wednesday, Mar. 26, the Times Newsweekly has not received any response from hotel management.

Dubbed the New Pan American Hotel and Hostel on its revamped website, www.panamhotel.com, the facility advertised itself as offering “exceptional comfort and service” at affordable rates. It also touts the location’s proximity to local shopping centers and John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports.

The PanAm advertised available rooms with queen size or two double beds and dorms with either one or two bunk beds accommodating two to four people, respectively.
