The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an air quality health advisory for the city until 11 p.m. as smoke from a New Jersey brush fire reportedly continues to impact the area.
Active adults and children, and people with lung diseases, such as asthma, should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.
The fire is located in Wharton State Forest, about 90 miles south of the city and has affected around 1,500 acres, according to published reports. It was about 30 percent contained as of this morning, reports said.
A Twitter user said he could smell the smoke even from Astoria, according to amNewYork.
