Jersey Fugitive Cuffed In R’wood

Burglary Suspect Had Pepper Spray, Fake Bags

On the run for nearly a decade, a suspected New Jersey burglar was picked up by 104th Precinct officers in Ridgewood last Friday morning, Apr. 4, for allegedly possessing counterfeit handbags and pepper spray, law enforcement sources said.

Police identified the suspect as Clifford C. Boyd, 54, of Macombs Road in the Bronx.

According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, Boyd is awaiting extradition to Essex County, N.J. on an outstanding arrest warrant in connection with a November 2005 burglary.

Reportedly, 104th Precinct officers slapped the cuffs on Boyd last Friday morning after allegedly observing him place a can of pepper spray in his pocket while walking at the intersection of Wyckoff and Cody avenues at about 11:20 a.m.

During a search, authorities said, police found in Boyd’s possession a handbag containing six counterfeit Michael Kors purses and four fake Louis Vuitton handbags. The knockoff bags were similar to genuine designer purses worth several hundred dollars a piece.

Boyd was taken into custody by P.O. Michael Sciame of the 104th Precinct on charges of trademark counterfeiting and unlawfully possession noxious material.

Upon further investigation, police learned of the outstanding arrest warrant against Boyd; he was subsequently charged as a fugitive from justice.

During arraignment in Queens Criminal Court last Saturday, Apr. 5, Judge Anna Culley ordered Boyd held without bail pending extradition proceedings, according to court records.
