Flags Flew and Horns Blew In Tribute to America’s Heroes at Memorial Day Events

Old Glory flew proudly during the Maspeth Memorial Day Parade on Sunday afternoon, May 25. As shown in Photos 1 and 2, the march proceeded along Grand Avenue and local streets and concluded with a memorial ceremony held at Maspeth Memorial Park. A buglist is shown in Photo 3 performing “Taps” in tribute to late soldiers during a special Memorial Day service held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens last Saturday afternoon, May 24. In Photo 4, Fr. Giancarlo Pattugalan of St. Margaret Church led prayers during a Memorial Day memorial service at the Middle Village Veterans’ Triangle on Monday morning, May 26. Soldiers past and present led the way during the Howard Beach Memorial Day Parade on Monday morning, which concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony at Bernard Coleman Square (Photos 5 and 6). Members of the American Legion Post 118 in Woodhaven held a special Memorial Day service of their own at their post on Monday morning (Photo 7). Finally, Woodside veterans marched and offered a military salute to the fallen during the neighborhood’s Memorial Day Parade, which wound its way through the neighborhood on Monday.
