Fresh Meadows man sentenced after sending sexual messages to cop posing as teen: DA

FRESH MEADOWS — A Fresh Meadows resident has been sentenced to at least a year and a half in prison for trying to disseminate indecent material online to a detective he believed was a 14-year-old girl, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Tariq Alam, 30, was sentenced to between 1 1/2 and three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the charges May 14, the DA’s office said.

Alam had used a social media application called Meet24 in 2013 to initiate a conversation with an NYPD detective who was posing as a 14-year old girl, according to the DA’s office.

The detective sent Alam a cellphone number, which the defendant sent messages to that were sexual in nature, the DA said.

Alam had also e-mailed a naked photo of himself to the undercover officer, according to the DA’s office.

The Fresh Meadows man arranged to meet with the girl in February 2014 and was arrested instead, the borough’s top prosecutor said.
