Fatally Struck At Maspeth Garage

New York’s Strongest mourned the loss of a worker killed last Saturday afternoon, June 21, in an accident at the Sanitation Department’s Maspeth garage, it was reported.

Steven Frosch (inset), a worker at the Sanitation Department garage in Maspeth, was performing maintenance on a street sweeper when he was fatally struck by another sweeper at the depot last Saturday, June 21.

Police said Steven Frosch, 43, of Euston Road in Garden City South was performing maintenance on a street sweeper when he was struck by another sweeper moving inside the Sanitation Department depot at 58-02 48th St. at about 1 p.m. last Saturday.

According to authorities, Frosch became pinned between the sweepers.

Officers from the 104th Precinct and EMS units rushed to the scene. Paramedics pronounced Frosch dead at the scene; he reportedly suffered severe body trauma.

No charges were filed against the driver of the moving sweeper, a 33- year-old Sanitation Department employee, and no criminality is suspected, police noted.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia issued statements of condolence following the deadly accident.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of New York’s Strongest today while on the job in service of our city,” de Blasio said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Steven Frosch’s family- especially his wife and four children-as well as his friends and fellow Sanitation workers. New York City stands ready to support them all in this tragic time of need.”

“Sanitation work is very dangerous and difficult work and we appreciate those who accept the call to duty,” Garcia added. “Our hearts go out to the Frosch family on their loss.”
