Ridgewood Man Busted For Attack & Larceny
Detectives collared a Ridgewood man last Saturday, July 5, who allegedly stabbed a man with a pen during an assault outside a neighborhood bar and swiped cash from a second victim in a separate incident, law enforcement sources said.
Police identified the perpetrator as 21-year-old Angel Espinal of Seneca Avenue, who was booked for the two incidents that occurred early last Monday morning, June 30.
According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the first incident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. last Monday, when Espinal and an unidentified suspect approached a man as he walked out of the Blue Bar located at 681 Seneca Ave.
Seconds later, authorities stated, Espinal and the unidentified accomplice assaulted the man, punching him about the head and knocking him to the ground.
The pair reportedly continued their assault after the victim hit the sidewalk, punching and kicking him repeatedly before fleeing.
Shortly after the assault, prosecutors said, an eyewitness spotted a pen protruding from one of the victim’s ears.
Members of the 104th Precinct responded to the incident. The victim was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries, including a head laceration and ear bleeding.
About an hour after the assault, police stated, Espinal allegedly removed more than $400 in cash and a money order from the front shirt pocket of a man walking in the vicinity of Gates and Seneca avenues. The victim in that incident later reported the theft to the 104th Precinct.
Based on information obtained during an investigation, Espinal was questioned last Friday and charged by the 104th Precinct Detective Squad with second-degree assault and fourth-degree grand larceny.
Court records noted he appeared in Queens Criminal Court last Saturday before Judge Ernest Hart and ordered held on $7,500 bond or $5,000 cash. Espinal is scheduled to return to court on July 16.
