Wills takes ice bucket challenge

By Juan Soto

City Councilman Ruben Wills (D-Jamaica) will be responding to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Saturday during District 28 Day celebrations.

The popular challenge is intended to raise money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research, a neurodegenerative disease. The phenomenon had raised $31.5 million as of Wednesday, according to the ALS Association.

District 28 Day will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Baisley Pond Park extension, at 150th Street and 130th Avenue.

Wills is expected to respond to the ALS challenge at 2:30 p.m. Once he pours the bucket of ice water over his head, he will introduce a new challenge.

During the celebrations, there will be several wallball (handball) tournaments and other family activities.
