Firefighters and paramedics rescued a digger who fell into a grave at St. John Cemetery in Middle Village last Friday morning, Sept. 5, it was reported. According to sources, the accident occurred at about 10:20 a.m. inside the cemetery off the intersection of 80th Street and Juniper Valley Road. Responding to the scene were Engine companies 319 and 287; Ladder Co. 135; Squad Co. 288; Rescue 4; Battalion 28; the 104th Precinct and EMS units. Reportedly, firefighters shored up the hole and made it safe to remove the trapped and injured worker, who was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center for injuries that were not life-threatening.
