Parish Anniversary Includes a Reunion

St. Matthias Celebrates 105 Years

St. Matthias School is celebrating the 105th anniversary of its founding this year, and the Alumni Association has planned a gala dinner and all-years reunion for Sunday, Sept. 28, to commemorate this special occasion.

The event begins with an Alumni Mass at 11:30 a.m., followed by dinner in the school auditorium from 1 to 6 p.m. The program will include induction of two alumni into the Hall of Fame: Helen Wolf (Class of 1977) and Robert Lohrey (Class of 1961). Two Apostleship Awards will be given to parishioners Gail Sands and James Bittel.

Event co-chair Elaine Haufe remarked that the 100th anniversary celebration was extremely successful, with over 350 people attending from all over the country.

“We hope to have an equal success this year,” she said.

The buffet menu will be varied, with offerings of meat, fish, vegetables and pasta, along with beverages including beer, wine and soda, and dessert. The cost of the dinner is $60 per person. There will also be raffles and a 50/50 drawing.

Alumni are advised to visit the school’s website, www.stmatthiasschool.org to register their contact information and to download the event flier/dinner reservation form and 50/50 raffle tickets.

“This event isn’t limited to alumni. Anyone who is interested in the school or wants to support the honorees is very welcome,” said Haufe.
