Dear Editor:
It has come to my attention that a uniformed police presence is now here at the library on a limited basis.
During the after school hours, the library is overwhelmed with an element that can only be described as savage. Loud, rude, nasty and dangerous adolescents are here in numbers that make the rest of the customers uncomfortable.
Additionally, people who are of questionable mental capacity occupy the library. It is unreasonable to expect the library staff to keep order and assure safety for those of us using the library for its intended use.
Uniformed security, either in the form of New York City Police Department, or private, would go a long way to make the civilized here more comfortable.
I hope hearing from regular library users would influence you to support this worthwhile effort.
