Renovations At Rego Pk. Office
Renovations will force the temporary closure of the Rego Park Social Security office through next spring, Rep. Grace Meng announced on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
The office at 63-44 Austin St. serves more than 240 Queens residents each day. The office will shut down at noon tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 12, and remain closed while the project is underway; it could take between three and four months to complete, Meng noted.
All individuals having business with Social Security- including walk-ins and appointments-will be handled beginning on Monday, Dec. 15, at the three closest Social Security offices in Jamaica (155- 10 Jamaica Ave., third floor, phone 1-866-592-0802); Flushing (138-50 Barclay Ave., phone 1-877-457-1735) and Bushwick (1111 Myrtle Ave., phone 1-888-327-1276).
“Although this temporary closure will be an inconvenience, the work is necessary, and the renovations will allow the facility to better serve the needs of our borough,” said Meng. “It is important that Queens residents are aware of the temporary shutdown, and I will monitor and stay in contact with Social Security officials to make sure that the project stays on track.”
Social Security offices are open to the public Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon.
All 32 employees from the Rego Park facility will be temporarily relocated to one of the three other offices.
The Rego Park office is a fullservice facility handling most Social Security matters including retirement, disability, survivors, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.
Social Security offices are operated by the U.S. Social Security Administration, an agency of the federal government that administers the nation’s Social Security program.
