The Bayside father whose 4-month-old child died during the holidays after what appeared to be physical abuse, has been in jail since the new year, when police and the medical examiner ruled the infant’s death a homicide.
The infant’s mother, Queens radiologist Reena Malhotra, is now asking authorities to allow the husband and father, Jagsheer Singh, to post bail and be released.
The couple’s unconscious child, Nevin Janduher, was rushed to Flushing Hospital Dec. 20, after Singh awakened Malhotra, claiming that the infant had fallen off a changing table, according to the criminal complaint filed by the Queens district attorney’s office. The couple had been married a year at the time of the infant’s death.
Due to the severeness of skull fractures, Dr. Jamie Hoffman-Rosenfeld found the injuries to be “non-accidental inflicted trauma of abusive head trauma,” according to the criminal complaint.
The murder charge against Singh still stands and authorities said they would be reluctant to grant him bail, given the current evidence in the case.
Nonetheless, Malhotra wrote to Justice Richard Buchter urging him to do just that.
“I write you, humbly, to attest to the fact that my husband Jagsheer is a loving and caring father and husband,” she wrote, according to the DA. “He has a big heart, is a God-loving man and is a responsible person with a calm demeanor.”
