Queens Library has launched the bidding process for the expansion of its East Elmhurst branch that will add 4,000 square feet of space. The library, at 95-06 Astoria Blvd., has 7,500 square-feet.
“This will be a phased construction so we won’t have to close until the very end,” Queens Library spokeswoman Joanne King said. “The City Department of Design and Construction expects it will take about three years to complete the expansion project.”
The City purchased an adjoining vacant lot several years ago and planned for a new facade, a teen community meeting room, an outdoor reading patio, an atrium with a skylight and a Cyber Center. The branch’s teen space will be expanded as well.
The library was last renovated in 2009.
