Whitestone Village tree lighting postponed

By Madina Toure

The first annual Whitestone Village tree lighting ceremony scheduled for Tuesday evening has been postponed to Friday due to inclement weather.

The ceremony, hosted by the Whitestone Village Merchants Association, the We Love Whitestone Civic Association, City Councilman Paul Vallone (D-Bayside) and the Queens Chamber of Commerce, will take place Friday in front of Harpell Chemists at 12-65 150th St. The ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. and the lighting will occur at 5 p.m.

Vallone allocated $37,000 in funding to the Queens Chamber of Commerce over the past two fiscal years to form a business association among the merchants in Whitestone Village.

He worked with We Love Whitestone and the merchants to organize the lighting ceremony.
