SATURDAY (Feb. 13)
1. Mario the Magician at the Queens Library of Hollis
When: Saturday, February 13 at 1 p.m.
Where: Queens Library of Hollis is located on 202-05 Hillside Ave.
Abracadabra and Alakazam! Mario the Magician will entertain and astound with amazing feats of legerdemain at the Queens Library of Hollis from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13. Mario’s magic show motivates children to think outside the box and is fun for the whole family.
2. Valentine’s/Presidents’ Day sidewalk sale
When: Friday, February 12 to Monday, February 15
Where: Ridgewood’s Myrtle Avenue from Fresh Pond Road to Wyckoff Avenue
Ridgewood hosts its annual Valentine’s/President’s Day sidewalk sale this weekend. Running on Myrtle Avenue, which stretches from Fresh Pond Road to Wyckoff Avenue, it’s the perfect opportunity to shop for your Sweetie and peruse and purchase purveyors’ products.
3. Screening of “The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron”
When: Saturday, February 13 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Where: Queens Library of Richmond Hill, 118-114 Hillside Ave.
Now’s your chance to catch the blockbuster hit that swept the nation last summer, or see it for a second breathtaking time! The Queens Library of Richmond Hill will be screening “The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron” from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Join Captain America, Iran Man, The Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, plus a few new superheroes as they battle the sentient technological marvel and global threat of Ultron!
4. Screening of Disney’s “Inside Out” in 3-D
When: Saturday, February 13 from Feb. 13 to 19 at 12:30 p.m.
Where: Museum of the Moving Image, 36-01 35th Ave. in Astoria
Disney’s widely-acclaimed, Oscar-nominated film, “Inside Out,” will be screened daily by the Museum of the Moving Image from Feb. 13 to 19 at 12:30 p.m. The heartwarming movie features the vocal talents of Amy Pohler, Mindy Kaling and Lewis Black as the personified emotions of a young girl adjusting to living in a new neighborhood. General admission to the movie also includes entry to the museum itself. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $9 for seniors and $6 for students and children between ages 3 to 12.
5. Candlight tour at historic Vander Ende-Onderdonk House
When: Saturday, February 13 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: 1820 Flushing Ave. in Ridgewood
Built in 1709 by Paulus Vander Ende the historic Vander Ende-Onderdonk House is the oldest Dutch Colonial Stone House in the city and was a prominent marker in the 1769 settlement of the boundary dispute between Bushwick in Kings County and Newtown in Queens County. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a forgotten time in the manner in which it would have existed… by candlelight! Enjoy a romantic afternoon concert before your evening Valentine’s Day doings as Voelker-Orth Museum presents singer/songwriter Andrea Wolper. 2. Valentine’s Day jazz brunch
When: Sunday, February 14, from noon to 2:30 p.m.
Where: Bayside Historical Society, 208 Totten Ave, Bayside, NY 11359
What could be more romantic than Valentine’s Day in a castle! The Bayside Historical Society is hosting a jazz brunch in the historic Castle at Ft. Totten. Completed in 1887, the Castle is one of the finest surviving examples in New York City of Gothic Revival castellated style architecture. 3. Traditional Asian wedding dress exhibition
When: Sunday, February 14
Where: Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing, NY 11354
Celebrate the Lunar New Year in style. Curated by Dr. Hsing-Lih Chou of New York Institute of Culture and the Arts, this exhibition will feature women’s and men’s traditional wedding dress of Asia, including Taiwan, China, Korea, India and more. The studios are open from Feb. 14 to 28. Opening reception is Sunday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. and the studios will be open until Feb. 28, from noon to 5 p.m. Tickets range from $5 for non-members to free of charge for members and students with a valid ID.
4. Open mic for spoken-word artists
When: Sunday, February 14 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Where: Central Library in Jamaica, 89-11 Merrick Blvd.
An open mic event for spoken word artists will be hosted by poet and author Lauren “Lush” Collier. A native of Jamaica, Queens, Collier has published multiple collections of poetry. Whether rap or poetry, this is the ideal opportunity to show off your own skills or profess your feelings to that special someone on Valentine’s Day.
5. Asian dance celebration for the Lunar New Year
When: Sunday, February 14, beginning at noon
Where: Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd.
A fun and exciting way to celebrate the Lunar New Year, Flushing Town Hall will present an Asian dance performance. In honor of the Year of the Monkey, performers will demonstrate styles of dance from Korea, Taiwan, India and China. Tickets will be distributed two hours before show time, but they are limited, so be sure to pick up your free ticket.
6. “Bearing Witness: Drawings by William Groper”
When: Sunday, February 14-28
Where: Queens Museum, New York Building in Flushing Meadows Corona Park
Printmaker, painter and visual editorialist, William Gropper (1897-1977), grew up in poverty on the Lower East Side, learning about social injustice from working in sweatshops and losing his aunt in the infamous 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Queens Museum is honoring Groper through this exhibit of his work, which will sheds light on topics, such as censorship, immigration and basic human rights. The display will run until Feb. 28.
MONDAY (Feb.15)
1. “Leading the Way: Six Outstanding Women of Queens”
When: Monday, February 15 until May 2016
Where: Queens Historical Society Building, 143-35 37th Ave., Flushing
Featuring women from diverse fields and backgrounds, this extraordinary exhibit spotlights six extraordinary women, who lived in Queens at critical and significant times in their lives, ranging from Grace Lee Boggs to Helen Keller. Also, as an homage to Helen Keller, is an interactive installation of handmade sea glass-like objects by artist M. J. Levy Dickson.
TUESDAY (Feb.16)
1. How to create a LinkedIn account

Celebrate African-American History Month with Tiana, Disney’s first African-American in the hit animated film “The Princess and the Frog,” This multi-award-winning movie, features music by Randy Newman and the vocal talents of Anika Noni Rose, Oprah Winfrey and Terence Howard.

1. A day of song and dance performances to celebrate the Lunar New Year
