A 16-year-old girl lost her life on a Rosedale street early Wednesday morning after she was hit by a van that fled the scene, police reported.
The incident took place at 12:17 a.m. at the corner of Sunrise Highway and Francis Lewis Boulevard.
According to authorities, the victim — whose identity was not released pending family notification — was walking through a crosswalk at the southeast corner of the intersection when she was struck by a dark-colored van heading eastbound on Sunrise Highway.
After striking the girl, police said, the van continued traveling eastbound on Sunrise Highway, leaving the victim lying in the street.
Officers from the 105th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Paramedics rushed the victim to Jamaica Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
