Two soccer icons are joining forces to bring the “beautiful game” to Bayside.

The New York Cosmos will partner with Gold Coast Sports Academy’s (GCSA) Jozy Altidore Soccer Academy to help deliver premier soccer day camps to kids across the borough. The camp will utilize the athletic facilities at Queensborough Community College for kids ages 5 to 16.

The camp will offer lessons for beginner, intermediate and advanced level players, helping them hone and grow their skill sets. Coaching the athletes will be none other than Carlos Mendes, New York Cosmos team captain.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Cosmos to bring to our camper athletes the highest level of soccer training,” said Bernie Tessler, CEO of GCSA. “Having our camper/athletes spend time every week with pros like Carlos Mendes, the team captain, makes this summer soccer academy a truly unique experience.”

The Cosmos will also work with the GCSA staff to fully train their coaches, ensuring that program participants will learn and continue to develop their skills in the Cosmos style.

“We are excited to be able to offer more programs for kids of all skill levels across the New York Metropolitan area,” said Erik Stover, New York Cosmos chief operating officer. “On these programs, young players will be coached in the same way as our current and past players, including Raúl and Marcos Senna.”

The Jozy Altidore Soccer Academy camp sessions are held on a weekly basis starting on July 5, and run through Aug. 19. Altidore is a professional soccer player who plays forward for Toronto FC and the U.S. National Team. He appeared in the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup.

“I am excited about my partnership with such a highly respected organization like Gold Coast Sports Academy,” Altidore said. “For several years, I have wanted to bring quality youth soccer training to the New York-New Jersey region in an environment that’s both fun and educational for kids. Thankfully, teaming up with GCSA has granted me the opportunity to realize this dream and establish top-notch soccer camps for children of all ages in an area of the country so dear to me and my family.”
