A five-alarm fire destroyed a dry cleaning store in Long Island City on Sunday afternoon and caused minor damage to an adjacent furniture store, FDNY said.
The fire broke out at about 3:42 p.m. on Sunday at DK Pro Dry Cleaners at 38-68 13th St. Approximately 200 firefighters responded to the scene and were able to get the fire under control in just under five hours, a spokesperson for the FDNY said.
The three-alarm fire was upgraded to a four-alarm fire at about 6 p.m. according to the FDNY’s Twitter page. After spreading to Fine Arts Furniture Inc. at 38-72 13th St., the fire was upgraded again. Firefighters were able to get control of the blaze at 8:30 p.m, the spokesperson said.
Two firefighters suffered minor injures and were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. No civilians were hurt in the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
