Riders who are fed up with 7 train service will have the opportunity to direct their questions and frustration at MTA New York City Transit President Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim at a Tuesday night meeting in Sunnyside.
The 7 train is so notorious for having bad service that Queens riders started a Facebook group, 7 Train Blues, to provide up-to-date information about delays, vent about overcrowded platforms and provide travel advice.
Residents and elected officials have also held several rallies throughout the years to call for improvements and a full-line review. A 2014 report by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli found that the 52nd Street stop in Woodside was one of the top 5 stations with the most structural issues.
Access Queens, a transit advocacy group, and Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer are hosting a town hall at the Sunnyside Community Services center, 43-31 39th St., at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday so that 7 train riders can get answers.
Hakim will make a presentation and also participate in a Q & A session. According to a spokesperson for Van Bramer’s office, Hakim will discuss completed and scheduled work on the 7 train, reliability issues and lessons learned based on the communications-based train control system.
Access Queens and Van Bramer are encouraging people to use the hashtag #AsktheMTA on Twitter to direct their questions.
The questions have already started pouring in and they cover everything from service delays to lack of communication by the MTA.
