As the dog days of summer are official upon us, check out these five fun ways to cool off all around Queens!
1. Take a swim!
The best way to beat the heat in the “World’s Borough” is to head for Astoria Park Pool, located at 19th Street and 23rd Drive, in Astoria. Astoria Park Pool is an Olympic-sized pool and is the largest public pool in NYC at 330 feet in length. It also features a diving pool as well. The best part is it’s free! Check out our guide to the best pools in Queens as well.
2. Visit Long Island City waterfront
Great way to stay cool in Queens this summer is to visit the Long Island City waterfront where there are many water-related activities, as well as non-nautical adventures to be had. Have some fun at Hunter’s Point South Park, go fishing along the piers, picnic underneath the famous Pepsi-Cola sign, or take a stroll on the sand at the LIC beach by Hunter’s Point South Park.
3. Eat tons of ice cream at Lemon Ice King in Corona
Give your tastebuds a break from the heat and take a trip to the famous Lemon Ice King of Corona, located at 52-02 108th St. With a plethora of classic and unique flavors — such as lemon, cherry, chocolate, pineapple, mango, cotton candy and peanut butter — there is no end to the deliciousness.
4. Last chance to see Ramones exhition at the Queens Museum
Hey! Ho! Let’s Go…to the Ramones exhibit at the Queens Museum before it closes down on Sunday, July 31. Relive the birth of punk rock and the incredible journey of Forest Hills’ own The Ramones. See some rare artifacts from the punk rock pioneers and their meteoric rise to the top of the music scene.
5. Seriously… head to the Rockaways!
For a more traditional way to beat the heat this weekend, head down to Rockaway Beach for sand, fun and sun. Take a dip in the ocean, walk the boardwalk or lay out and catch some rays, the choice is yours! Take a look at our guide to fun things to do with kids at the beloved peninsula.
