The Democratic primary is held for voters to choose candidates for state office in the Assembly and Senate. The winner of each primary may face a Republican challenger in the Nov. 6 election if one is on the ballot.
There are two closely watched state Senate races.
Sen. Toby Stavisky (D-Flushing) is facing opponent S.J. Jung, a community activist and businessman, who is running against her for the second time in the 16th District. Sen. James Sanders (D-Rochdale Village) is squaring off against Adrienne Adams, the chairwoman of Community Board 12, in the 10th District.
Assemblywoman Alicia Hyndman (D-Springfield Gardens) is being challenged by Lorraine Gittens-Bridge, an educator, in the 29th District. Assemblywoman Margaret Markey (D-Maspeth) faces lawyer Brian Barnwell in the 30th District. Assemblywoman Michelle Titus (D-Far Rockaway) has a race against Nigel Lonke in the 31st District, while Assemblywoman Vivian Cook (D-Jamaica) is up against Rodney Reid in the 32nd District.
Five candidates are vying to fill the vacant seat in the 33rd District created by the death of longtime Assemblywoman Barbara Clark (D-Queens Village).
Brian Block, Sabine French, Roy Paul, Clyde Vanel and Nantasha Williams are running for the Democratic nod.
Polls in New York City will open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. To determine your polling location, you can search by your address at nyc.polls
