FLUSHING—Police were searching for a man who attempted to kidnap an 11-year-old girl Saturday at the Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day in Flushing, police said.

The annual event before the US Open begins allows kids to practice with pro-tennis players inside Flushing Meadows Park. At 3:45 p.m. an 11-year-old girl was watching a practice session in one of the courts when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her wrist, demanding she go with him and threatened to harm her, according to police. The girl pulled her arm free from the suspect and kicked him. The suspect then fled the location in an unknown direction, police said.

The suspect is described as a 25- to 35-year-old male, weighing 200 pounds, standing anywhere from 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-11. Police said he was last seen wearing a red shirt with stripes, khaki shorts, sunglasses and a tattoo with words on his right wrist.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS
