More than four years later, police have arrested a convicted bank robber whom they say fatally bludgeoned an 89-year-old supermarket owner in his Elmhurst home back in March of 2012, authorities announced.
Harry Pacheco, 40, of 68th Drive in Kew Gardens Hills was formally charged on Friday, Dec. 2, for the murder of Demaso Llano during an apparent home invasion.
Llano, who owned the El Mundo supermarket in Corona, was found dead in his home on 43rd Avenue near Junction Boulevard on the morning of March 26, 2012. He had severe head trauma and his hands were bound with cable ties.
The New York Daily News reported on Sunday that Pacheco, who was previously convicted on federal bank robbery charges, confessed to the murder while testifying against a former associate on trial. He is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence.
Pacheco was arrested by the 110th Precinct Detective Squad following an investigation. He faces a second-degree murder charge.
Deputy Inspector Christopher Manson, commanding officer of the 110th Precinct, took to Twitter to announce the arrest Friday night:
The 2012 murder of a beloved store owner from Junction Blvd has been solved by the 110 Detectives. The perpetrator has been arrested.

Manson also congratulated the squad for arresting two suspects for the Thanksgiving Day murder of a Bronx man on Judge Street in Elmhurst.
